Offering the result to one’s Guru

Dear devotees

PAMHO. AGTSP. AGTSG&SG.

OFFERING THE RESULT TO ONE’S GURU

IT is an excellent idea to get as many disciples and wellwishers of Srila

Jayapataka Swami to observe Janmastami fast strictly and offer the result to

our beloved Srila Jayapataka Swami Gurudeva.

No one should doubt that this is authentic or factual, since Sri Hari Bhakti

Vilasa enjoins that a disciple can offer the result of a fasting vrata to

one’s guru, as verified in the following quotes from HBV sastra:

All that is required is at the beginning of the fast announce it to Lord

Krishna in your heart that today I will observe the Janmastami vow and offer

the results to my beloved guru maharaja. Upon completion of the fast, just

before taking non-grain prasada or water AFTER midnight, after the festival,

the disciple should again announce to Lord Krishna within the heart that, My

Lord, I will now break fast. Please forgive me for any offences in my

observance and please give the full result to my beloved guru maharaja,

Srila Jayapataka Swami Maharaja.

Text 87 kdtydyana smrtau (In the Kdtyayana-smrti it is stated)

pitr matr pati bhrdtr

punyam satagunam labhet

daksindtra na ddtavyd susrusd vihitd ca yd

By fasting on behalf of one’s father, mother, husband, brother, or spiritual

master, one obtains one hundred times more benefit than fasting for himself.

However, it should be carefully understood that one should not award payment

in exchange for this service.

Text 83 athava vipra mukhyebhyo

ddnarh dadyat svasaktitah upavasantu kurvvanah

punyarh satagunarh labhet

Or, one can give charity to an elevated brahmana, according to his capacity.

One obtains one hundred times more benefit by fasting on behalf of someone

than fasting for personal advancement.

HBV also states that one should not forget to remember and worship on

Janmastami day Lord Sri Krishna’s Mother Yasoda, otherwise the observance of

Janmastami vrata will be far from complete.

Seeing and hearing about Krishna’s appearance and pastimes with Morther

Yasoda is the perfect observance of Janmastami along with fasting.

On Janmastami the sastras enjoin that one should fast from Sunrise

Janmastami morning to Sunrise the next day. This is the highest standard.

Srila Prabhupada enjoined that we could take Ekadasi prasada AFTER the

festival and this rule is also given in the Sri Hari Bhakti Vilasa.

Thank you all for doing this wonderful service and special thanks to HG

Ajamila Prabhu who gave the original idea and also to HG Amoga prabhu both

disciples of Srila Prabhupada who will be fasting on Janmastami day and

offering the results to our beloved Srila Jayapataka Swami Gurudeva.
